June’s Loneliness Tips

  1. Take Part in Loneliness Awareness Week Activities (10–16 June)
Hosted by the Marmalade Trust, this year’s theme ‘reducing stigma’ by ‘Meeting Loneliness Together’ encourages everyday connection. Look for local events, workshops, or social media campaigns using #LonelinessAwarenessWeek to join the conversation.
  2. Start a Small Conversation
A quick chat with a neighbour, barista, or fellow bus passenger can make a real difference. During Loneliness Awareness Week, challenge yourself to initiate at least one small conversation each day.
  3. Reconnect with Someone You’ve Lost Touch With
Use this week as a gentle prompt to message an old friend, colleague, or family member. Even a short “how are you?” can reopen meaningful connections.
  4. Join a Local Hobby or Interest Group
Whether it’s a book club, walking group, or community choir, regular shared activities help build lasting friendships. June is full of local happenings, try checking community centre boards or sites like Meetup and Eventbrite, or use the resources highlighted in the month’s newsletter.
  5. Attend a Community Coffee Morning or Drop-InMany libraries, faith groups, and community centres host informal gatherings, especially during Loneliness Awareness Week. They’re low-pressure spaces to meet others, share a cuppa, and feel part of something local.
